Currently Enrolling for Pneumococcal vaccine Study

Ohio Pediatric Research Association is currently enrolling babies who are between 42 days and 89 days old, who were born at 37 weeks of pregnancy or later. Your baby may qualify for this study if:

  • They are healthy based on medical history.

  • Have not received their 2-month old vaccinations.

  • There are additional eligibility criteria that the doctor can discuss with you.

  • You will be compensated for your time in the study.

  • Your baby’s health will be closely monitored by the study team throughout their participation.

What is pneumococcal disease?

Why get children vaccinated?

Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine can prevent pneumococcal disease.

Pneumococcal disease refers to any illness caused by pneumococcal bacteria. These bacteria can cause many types of illnesses, including pneumonia, which is an infection of the lungs. It is the most common cause of pneumonia.

Other diseases caused by Pneumococcal bacteria;

  • Ear infections

  • Sinus infections

  • Meningitis (infection of the tissue covering the brain and spinal cord)

  • Bacteremia (infection of the blood)

Who should get vaccinated?

Anyone can get pneumococcal disease, but children under 2 years old, people with certain medical conditions or other risk factors, and adults 65 years or older are at the highest risk.
