We are Currently Enrolling for a Meningococcal Vaccine Study
About the Study
Meningococcal disease is caused by a germ. There are many different types of this germ. The Meningococcal germ can cause diseases such as infection of the brain lining (Meningitis). The likelihood of experiencing Meningococcal disease for any individual is low; however, adolescents and young adults have an increased risk of disease compared to older people. This study is being done with healthy adolescents and young adults to see if an investigational vaccine might help the body make antibodies and fight off different germs that cause meningococcal disease.
Your child will be randomly assigned to receive either the investigational vaccine or the control vaccine. A control vaccine looks like an investigational vaccine but does not contain the same ingredients. Only a small number of staff at the research site will know which vaccine your child has been given. Your child will be given two or three vaccine injections. One at their first study visit, one about 24 months later and possibly one more 24 months after that. The vaccine will be injected into their left arm. This study will look for any side effects and measure the number of antibodies produced in each person after receiving these vaccines.
Medical Care
Participation in this study may last up to 60 months which will include several telephone calls and study site visits. Taking part in this study is voluntary and there is no penalty or change to your child’s regular medical care if they decide not to participate.
How to Participate
If your child is interested in participating, he or she will undergo a series of screening assessments including:
Collection of demographic information
Physical examination
Provide blood sample (if required)
Pregnancy test (if female)
Review of health and current medications
Taking part in this study is voluntary and there is no penalty or change to your child’s regular medical care if they decide not to participate. We encourage you and your child to have conversations with family, caregivers, doctors and the study team about taking part in this study and whether it is right for them.
Is Your Child Eligible?
Your child may be eligible to participate in this clinical study if they:
Are between 11 and 14 years old
Have never received a prior dose of any Meningococcal vaccine
Are otherwise healthy and do not have any chronic immune, neurological, or psychiatric illnesses
Note: These are not the only eligibility criteria for this clinical research study, and other criteria may exclude your child. A clinical research team member will help determine if your child meets all necessary criteria to participate.
